بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم والصلاة والسلام على نبينا محمد وعلى آله وصحبه أجمعين
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Assalaamu alaykum,
My name is Nadiya Johnson. I am an American Muslimah and I provide a curriculum for non-Arab, English-speaking women to learn Arabic language and Quran online. I started teaching behind a sheet in my dining room in Philadelphia in 2005.
After experimenting with different methods and then getting formal training for 3 years in Qatar I decided on a practical and inshaAllah, effective teaching method. My methodology has one simple goal: to get the Arabic language onto your tongue! I believe very strongly that this is first and foremost BEFORE learning grammar. Grammar is very important for understanding, but without words, without real language to work with, grammar has no purpose. We can look at the earlier generations of Muslims and find this is the case.
When Islam entered various lands outside of Arabia, the people adapted the Arabic language along with accepting the deen. The Muslims either made ARabic their primary language, such as in North Africa, or they incorporated Arabic words with their native tongue as in East Africa and Asia.
When the Quran was being revealed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, it was not by pen and paper, rather it was transmitted orally.
